Beer Bread / Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Beer Bread
3 cups self-rising flour, sifted
3 T sugar
12 ounces beer, room temperature
¼ cup melted butter for batter
¼ cup melted butter to pour over batter in pan.

Optional: add one cup grated cheddar or desired herbs for flavoring.

Combine all ingredients well and pour into greased and floured loaf pan. 
Pour ¼ cup melted butter over top of batter. 
Bake at 375 for 50-60 minutes; test for doneness. 
Cool in the pan on a rack for 5-10 minutes before turning out.


Note: for whole wheat version, use 2 cups whole wheat flour and 1 cup self-rising flour and add 2 oz water to the beer.
